Delicious and simple comfort food, egg sandwich recipe with all the add-ons
Easy breakfast sandwiches are perfect for any meal.
Everyone loves comfort food like this even if it isn’t breakfast time. If you are looking for a quick and simple sandwich that is both delectable and easy to make, I’ve got you covered.
Here is an egg sandwich recipe that can serve as a base for your favorite sauces, dips, and toppings, but before we begin, let’s decide on the ingredients to make the best egg sandwich ever!
Bread
The first thing you need to decide when making a sandwich is what type of bread are you going to use. There are a lot of great options here.
Sourdough Sandwich Bread
If you want a little tangy flavor, sourdough is the best choice. Not only does it have a great flavor, but it also has some excellent health benefits. Sourdough is a fermented dough which makes it fantastic for gut health.
Bagel
Enjoy a fancy-looking sandwich on your favorite bagel. Whether you prefer a plain, asiago, or everything bagel; you can’t go wrong with choosing a bagel for your sandwich.
French Toast
Step up the sandwich with some French toast. It is interesting to note that French toast is made with eggs. Basically, it’s bread slices soaked in egg, milk, and spices/seasonings. Why not slip an extra fried egg in between?
White Bread
This is a classic choice. Kids and adults love it. White bread is always a safe option for egg sandwiches.
Italian Bread
Pre-seasoned options like this one add a lot of extra flavors.

Eggs
Now that you have chosen the best bread, it’s time to consider what kind of eggs to use. Any small or large eggs will do, but if you are looking for the healthiest option, consider the pro-metabolic approach and go for organic pasture-raised fresh eggs, like this or this for example. This ensures that the eggs are high quality.
How to cook your eggs?
Here are the four different ways to cook eggs.
- Fried – If you want some crunch to your eggs, frying them in a large skillet over medium heat will make them crispy.
- Scrambled – Scrambling eggs is the best way for beginners to cook eggs. It’s forgiving and very hard to mess up. The other nice thing about scrambling fluffy eggs is that you can cut the eggs into the shape of your bread. Now you won’t have to deal with any ends hanging out of your sandwich.
- Poached – Poaching is in a sense boiling your eggs without the shell. See this great recipe if you want to learn how to do this.
- Boiled – Egg salad sandwiches are delicious and very easy to make. Start by boiling your eggs like this egg salad recipe says to, and then have fun mixing your favorite sauces and spices to create a unique creamy egg salad twist on this classic sandwich.
What goes well on an egg sandwich?
You’ve got your bread and eggs picked out and you have decided how you are going to cook your eggs. All that is left is to choose what toppings to put on your sandwich.
Meats
Take your sandwich to the next level with any of these meats.
- Sausage – If you are going for more of a breakfast sandwich, nice spicy sausage patties will make you feel spoiled.
- Bacon – Add some extra crispy salty goodness to that sandwich with some fried bacon.
- Burger – The question is are you adding the burger to the egg sandwich or the egg to the burger? Either way, eggs and burgers are a fantastic combination.
Sauces
Here is a classic list of sauces for your sandwich. Feel free to grab your favorite sauce or dip and experiment.
- Mayonnaise
- Ketchup
- Ranch salad dressing
- Hot sauce
- Chick-fil-A sauce
- Barbecue sauce
- Sour cream
- Dijon Mustard
Toppings
These are definitely the best parts of a sandwich! You can’t go astray with these tried and true add-ons.
- Cheese – Cheddar cheese, Mozz, Pepper Jack….Take your pick. Shredded cheese will work, too.
- Onions – Regular onion, green onion, red onion…
- Tomatoes
- Jalapeños
- Ginger
- Dill Pickles

Ingredients:
- Bread
- 2 Eggs

- Salt (Black pepper is good, too)
Cooking Ware:
- Cast Iron skillet – Any frying pan or skillet works, but cooking your eggs in the cast iron provides the best flavor. If you don’t have one, check this one out. It might still be on sale.
- Spatula – Something like a metal or rubber spatula to flip your eggs.
- Microwave – This is for melting the cheese.
- Microwaveable plate
Instructions:
- Gather all the ingredients.
- Heat the skillet over medium heat.
- Drop a teaspoon of butter in the pan. (You can use cooking spray instead.)
- Melt butter.
- Once the butter sizzles, crack the eggs and drop them into the pan.
- Salt the eggs.
- Check on your eggs frequently while you get the bread ready.
- While the eggs are frying, prepare your bread by laying two slices side by side on the microwaveable plate.
- Slice some cheese and arrange a slice of cheese or two on the bread.
- Microwave the bread for 30-45 seconds until the cheese is melted.
- Flip the eggs once they start to get a little crispy around the edges.
- Press down on the yolks with the spatula to break the yolk.
- Tap the eggs with the spatula to see if they are done. Fried eggs should not squish under the spatula unless you like the yolks runny.
